A real deleting of files on hard drives is only possible through a complete overwrite of the original files with (meaningless) data. A simple delete as executed by all OSes makes files only non accessible on the OS and application program level (the file names are gone). But the fact is, that the complete contents of all that files are still there, waiting to be completely recovered, at least as long as they are not overwritten by new files.

Reasons to overwrite files on your hard disk:
  1. Anytime you delete a file you want to delete the contents of that file too;
  2. A partition with project or any other sensitive data needs to be unrecoverable deleted;
  3. The hard disk or your complete PC will be transferred, donated or sold.

Usually, wipe programs overwrites data by creating new big file and manipulating with it. But this way doesn't wipe FAT (file allocation table), file names, dates of creation and so on, i.e. some data can be restored. Absolute Disk Wiper wipes disk sector by sector using low-level disk reading/writing functions. So, ALL possible data will be deleted.
