How to disable or enable Windows XP System Restore
System Restore is one of the features of Windows XP. It lets you to set many restore points so that you can choose to restore your computer to any number of previously saved states.Though this is a fascinating backup feature, it can take up hard drive space by saving many configuration files and can even be utilized by some virus programs to prevent them from be removed by anti-virus tools. So sometime we need to turn off this feature temporarily.
Turn off System Restore
- Click Start > Programs > Control Panel
- Double click the System icon to open the System Properties dialog.
- Select the
System Restore tab.
- In this window, check Turn off System Restore.
- Click OK.
Turn on System Restore
- Click Start > Programs > Control Panel
- Double click the System icon to open the System Properties dialog.
- Select the System Restore tab.
- In this window, uncheck Turn off System Restore.
- Click OK.
