Xrectar is a variant of browser hijacker CoolWebSearch. It is implemented as an Internet Explorer Browser Helper Object. This spyware redirects browser requests to its controlling server and generates popup ads.

Follow these removal steps to remove this spyware from your computer:

1. Reboot your system to Safe Mode ( Press key F8 when Windows start ).
   
2. Click Start > Run, type 'cmd' to open the Dos command prompt window.
   
3. Type the following command:
   For Windows 2000\XP,
   cd %WinDir%\System32
   regsvr32 /u xrectar.dll
   del xrectar.dll
   
   Or for Windows 98/Me,
   cd %WinDir%\System
   regsvr32 /u xrectar.dll
   del xrectar.dll
   
4. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel, double click Internet Options, select Programs tab, click on the button Reset Web Settings.
